52 With-A-View: Mt. Monadnock via White Dot and White Cross Trails – Jaffrey, NH (August 3, 2016)

With the recent passing of my partner in crime and best hiking buddy Riley, I haven’t been out lately, nor have I even been able to look at my hiking gear without feeling emotional. My grand plans for a AT section hike focused around a fund raiser for Alzheimer’s have also been put on hold since Riley was to be my lone companion on this trip.

Riley’s untimely death weighed heavy on my heart during this hike and probably explains the lack of photos and the lack of a detailed trip report. I will try to fill in some details at a later date. For now, here are my photos.

The  gallery will load slowly. Thank you for your patience.

Gear

  • Ibex W2 Sport Tank and Hooded Indie
    • I wore the W2 for the duration of the hike and carried the Hoodie Indie in case I got cold or needed the extra layer for mosquito protection.
    • The W2 was soaked with sweat by the time I reach the summit, but the front dried out before I was back at the trailhead. The W2 did not stink after this hike and was worn several more times before being washed.
    • Since this trip, I have written a full review, which can be read here: Gear Review: Ibex W2 Sport Tank and Hooded Indie.
  • HOKA One One Tor Summit Mid WP Hiking Boot
    • When I want waterproof boots or extra ankle protection, these boots have become my go-to over the last few months. They’ve held up well to hiking as well as everyday use. I will post a full review soon.
