Children’s Forest Exploration Trail, April 18 2015

I had a very strenuous hike planned for this day (16 miles, ±5500 ft), but had to cancel due to some exciting news. ‪Kurgo‬ announced that Riley (my dog) and I are finalists for a $5000 sponsorship. The sponsorship would give me the financial means to purse and amazing adventure – we are hoping to hike NH’s 52 With a View over July & August this year.

To strengthen our application we (Riley, my wife, and I) headed out to the Children’s Forest Exploration Trail to shoot some video footage for our profile. We didn’t log as many miles as I had hoped, but we managed to get some decent video.

Gear

Since the purpose of the trip was to shoot some video, we lots of camera gear (tripods, multiple cameras, etc) and didn’t carry some of stuff I would normally carry.

Notable Gear

  • Cotton Carrier Camera Vest
    • I carried our Nikon D80, so the extra stability of the Camera Vest was nice.
  • Deuter Airlite 28
    • 3rd time out with the pack. I need to get in a 15-miler to see how it feels for a long day
  • Farm to Feet Merino Wool Socks –  Madison and Greensboro 1/4 Crew
    • I have been testing the microbial properties of Farm to Feet’s merino wool socks and they’re nothing short of amazing.
      • I’ve worn them up to three days, including 1 day of hiking without them smelling.
    • I doubled up on socks for this hike, since the Madison’s were a little thinner than what I’m used to.
  • GEIGERRIG 710 Pack & Hydration Engine
    • My wife was a little skeptical of the utility of the air bladder, then she discovered she could use it to spray our dog with water. Riley was not impressed!
  • Oboz Beartooth BDry
    • I can’t decide if I should wear the Beartooths or my Oboz Bridger BDry for the High Sierra Trail.
      • Beartooths, when compared to Bridgers
        • protects the bottoms of my feet better (full shank)
        • provides more ankle support
      • Bridgers, when compared to Beartooths
        • lighter
        • more comfortable

Geek Stats
